What is audio conversion?

Audio conversion changes the format and codec of a sound file. The same music or voice recording gets re-encoded so it plays on different devices, fits a smaller file size, or works with software that does not support the original format. A typical example: converting a FLAC archive into MP3 for a phone, or extracting a WAV for editing.

Supported formats

Input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, M4A, WMA, Opus, AIFF. Output: MP3 (universal), WAV (lossless), FLAC (lossless compressed), AAC (Apple-friendly), OGG (open-source), M4A (iTunes), Opus (modern codec for voice and streaming).

How to convert an audio file

1. Drop or browse your audio file
2. Pick the output format from the dropdown
3. Adjust the bitrate if needed (ignored for lossless WAV / FLAC)
4. Click Convert and wait for processing
5. Click Download to save the result

Bitrate explained

96 kbps — smallest files, audible compression artifacts, fine for podcasts. 128 kbps — standard for voice and casual listening. 192 kbps — sweet spot for most music, the recommended default. 256 kbps — high quality, transparent for most listeners. 320 kbps — near-CD quality, the maximum for MP3.

Lossy vs lossless

Lossy (MP3, AAC, OGG, Opus) — drops some inaudible data to shrink the file. Great for streaming, phones, and sharing. Lossless (WAV, FLAC) — keeps every detail of the original. Ideal for archiving, editing, and audio production where future re-encoding might happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which audio formats are supported?

Input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, M4A, WMA, Opus, AIFF. Output: MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, M4A, Opus.

What does bitrate affect?

Higher bitrate = better sound, larger file. 192 kbps is the sweet spot for music. WAV and FLAC are lossless and ignore the setting.

What is the maximum file size?

Up to 200MB per file. For longer or lossless files that exceed this, split before converting.

Lossy or lossless?

Lossy (MP3, AAC, OGG, Opus) for streaming and phones. Lossless (WAV, FLAC) for archiving and audio production.
